Outdoorsman, Geographer, GIS Specialist, and Web Developer
Spencer Riddile is currently working as a Geographic Information System (GIS) and CAD Support Specialist for the Communications Network Services (telecommunications provider) division of Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA. Spencer has an educational background in natural resources and professional experience in web application development and geospatial technologies such as GIS. His academic and professional interests involve applying geospatial technology to study and solve natural resource issues, as well as open source software, volunteered geographic information, crowdsourcing and citizen science.
An avid bike rider, hiker and paddler, Spencer very much enjoys recreating outdoors. He values opportunities to introduce other people to the natural world and has acquired training to lead groups in the wilderness through his work as a camp counselour at Camp Susque as well as participating in the Advanced Wilderness Leadership Program (AWLP) at HoneyRock Camp, a program based on principles used by Outward Bound.
